Eight Historical European Designs - Adapted from 17th century tiles from Talavera de la Reina - Spain - are joined together to make these > Rug Kits

The Trades of Talavera Rug - is composed of eight different kits. The four central designs represent the Trades - the borders are four different designs - described below. We recommend acquiring the eight kits at once to insure a consistent dye lot of our fibers. Perfect for a country decor - use as a throw - 43 x 43 inches ( 111 x 111 cm. ) - 10 mesh canvas.

Heraldic Borders

Heraldic Borders - Table Cover or Rugs

The Four Heraldic Borders are shown above - stitched together to form tablecovers or rugs of diverse dimensions - as any number of these strips may be joined. The needlework designs are stationary classic frets encasing the three motifs - the lion - plant and castle. The four colors behind the rotating motifs are a subtle variation - avoiding redundancy - which enhances the finished designs. Select the photo above to view enlarged.

These tapestries may also be used individually as bell pulls. Another original use is to pull back your drapes with each strip. Headboards - and - Bench Covers are another finishing recommendation. The Kits are sold in sets of four. Joining panels together in any direction will permit a custom solution to your decoration desires - 25 x 37 inches ( 64 x 94 cm. ) - 10 count.

Please appreciate the difficulty of our symmetrical and geometrical designs - the painting of the canvases - are worked to exact precision. We should have stuck with flowers !!

The Proclaimer and The Weaver - 15.5 x 15.5 inches each - 10 mesh

The Proclaimer and The Weaver are the other two Trades from this Needlework Collection. The Proclaimer is also fondly called The Reveler here in our studio - although we use the proper translation formally.

Today - weaving is usually a ladies hobby - yet historically this was considered a man*s trade. The handmade Spanish looms are a beautiful structure and well portrayed in The Weaver Design.

Finishing all of these four designs into - cushions or pillows - will enhance any room in your country home. An excellent choice for chair seat pads also.

Memling Gul Patterns - Finishing into Pillows

The painting - Vase of Flowers - by Hans Memling c. 1485 - inspired us to create this patterns design - concisely adapting the tapestry table cover - into needlepoint panels. Memling Gul Pillow is finished - again - inserted into a raw silk tapestry fabric.

Why not use these Cushions and Pillows together - add different color backings for variety - black - white - olive ... will be smashing !

These Patterns are very unusual in needlepoint - resembling tiles - the color combination seen above is very suitable for any decor - classic - modern or rustic. These Panels may be joined together endlessly.

The Blue Sampler is seen in a matching mat and frame finishing. We picked up the ecru letters for the mat color and the background baby blue for the frame. The Samplers are very lovely as pillow inserts as well - and will bring charm to any decoration. The Fret surrounding the twenty-six letters of the English Alphabet is identical on all four sides - featuring a hydrangea on each. The movement of the twenty-six alphabet letters and flowers are perfectly balanced with the stationary design of this fret.

Beige Blue - Needlepoint Sampler - 15.4 x 15.4 inches - 10 mesh Zweigart Interlock Canvas

The Beige Blue Sampler was designed to match the Blue for a balanced pair on a sofa ( for example ). They are actually the same colors reversed - yet when combining the fibers - the finished feels are different. For example - the ecru above picks up an almost green sensation. The patterns on the borders are inspired by Chinese cloisonné.

The Beige Rose Needlepoint Sampler was designed as a pair with the Rose seen below. The four Samplers are perfectly symmetrical and a challenge to paint as they must not be one line off.

The symmetry and contrasts of movement
produce a tranquilizing effect on any spectator. Stunning - delicate and elegant - the Samplers are a must for any discerning person - the true art of painting with small dots of colored fibers - taken to the peak of excellence.

Victorian Dolls

Pearl is shown in a wood frame - yet will look graceful as a cushion or inserted into a pillow. Again - we suggest raw silk for the cushion finishing - not as durable as other fabrics - yet our feeling is that you may always remake a pillow. The silk gives an original light feel to the finished needlework.

Ruthann - is seen dressed in a typical Victorian Fashion - as she waves to whoever is there. Again - we mat our needlepoint before framing it as we feel it a nicer finishing this way. The three Dolls are also nice when finished into pillows. There is extra space below - if you choose to write in the name of your favorite *doll*. The border patterns are the same on each design - a series of clubs which flip up and down.

Initials

The Initials include the twenty-six letters of the English Alphabet. The kits come with the three colors shown - ecru - gold and antique blue. Truly a Classic Design - simple and elegant.

Children Kits

La Cervatilla is the small Baby Deer - based on 14th century tiles from Valencia - Spain. Perfect for children or adults - this charming little doe is surrounded by oriental ornaments. A lovely addition to our kit collection. Many more and larger - coming soon. These new animal designs are true collectors items - soon available will be matching tiles and fused glass panels.

The first of a series of Animal Kits - The Little Stork and The Little Rooster - are also finished. The proper historical colors are a cobalt blue - not black - as seen below (in the tile reproduction) - - so we have re-stitched the wee doe and - The Little Stork.

Animal Kits

La Ciguëña is The Small Stork - again adapted from 14th century tiles from Manises - outside of Valencia - Spain. A dainty addition to our animal kits collection and - - ideal for both children and adults - this charming little stork is also available with the matching Spanish tiles (seen below). She makes a sublime pillow insert.

Our small Rooster is a stylized fourteenth century Historical Design - again - - embraced - by Byzantine ornaments. He looks well as a cushion insert ( pillow - seen above ) or - again - in shadow box frames - perfect as a patch for your Jean jacket also.

We show you Our Little Cock below - a detailed photograph - to see the polish on Our extremely well combed fibers - yes - there is a stitch missing - as we were still in the designing process - and we do - - suffer - the placement of each dot.

Each Kit needs around four hours to make - as we hand wrap each skein of Our Wool - after sorting the necessary quantities for each different design. All the printing and hand cutting of the charts - photographs - labels and catalogs is also done here - in Our Studio.

We are very careful to quality check each kit - especially while painting the patterns onto each canvas - that it is exact to the millimeter and precise. Our wool is packed following the order of the numbers - the fibers are smooth and soft to the touch - well combed and the finest available.
