Designs - Available as Kits or Canvases - is an Exclusive Collection
Based on Seventeenth Century Tile Designs from Talavera de la
Reina - a town near Toledo in Spain.
Four Central Motifs
- 10 mesh are 15.5 x 15.5 inches ( 39 x 39 cm. ) each design - Four Different Heraldic
Borders - 10 mesh - are 37.2 x 6 inches ( 94.5 x 15 cm. ) each
design
One
of our most popular Needlepoint Collections - these Historical
seventeenth century tile designs from Talavera de la Reina - Spain
are carefully adapted into needlework tapestries - and may be joined
together to make a rug - as seen in the above photograph. The colors
have been meticulously matched to the original tiles.
The
four traditional central motifs are ( clockwise ) - La Campesina ( The Countrywoman ) - El Cazador ( The Hunter )
- El Tejedor ( The Weaver ) and - El Pregonero ( The Proclaimer ).
These four central motifs are also seen separately in the section
titled Figures. The original tile paintings were interpreted
with a tad more dimension in our tapestries - yet maintain the naive
lightness of the freehand paintings.
The
Four Heraldic Needlepoint Borders frame these central motifs.
Each border is a completely different design as the three motifs
( lion - plant and castle ) rotate inside the fret and the background
colors ( light navy - olive - dark navy and forest ) subtly alternate
every four squares. This avoids redundancy in the finished piece.
It is a subtle variation - however a noticeable one which enriches
the final effect. The borders are named - Top - Right - Bottom and
Left. Within these pages take a close look at the lion - for example
( in relation to the surrounding fret ).
