Needlepoint Kits by Samantha Taylor - The Countrywoman - one of Four Central Needlepoint Motifs from Trades of Talavera - Historical European Tapestry Collection from 17th Century SpainThe Countrywoman is reminiscent of the robust female figural representations that Pablo Picasso paints in Deux femmes courant sur la plage. Again - the perfect triangulation so praised in classical masterpieces may be observed in the Countrywoman Needlepoint Composition. The Countrywoman is dressed in the historical peasant country attire of the period. The Velveteen or Corduroy skirt consists of six shades of maize - shaded with two tones of sage green. Nineteen Colors were used to complete this Needlepoint Figurine. The Four Blues were carefully chosen to match the original tile colors - yet add perspective to the flat painted strokes. The familiar touch of Tangerine is used to portray an autumn vegetation - repeated in the ground cover and falling feed. The Forest shading progresses into a chartreuse then yellow for the vest and is accurate to the original tile colors. The original tile may be viewed below. The colors vary as the tile was scanned directly. The needlepoint ( above ) was photographed - then scanned. The problem arises as the film sees the colors differently - then the laboratories do what they want - then the scanner changes the final calibrations. We promise that the finished needlepoint design - is much more similar to these colors than seen above - and hope to add more accurate photographs very soon.
Spanish Colonial Revival in the SouthwestDuring the 1920s and 30s - Spanish Colonial Revival was one of the most popular architectural styles in the Southwest. Colorful ceramic tiles as well as clay tile roofs - roughly plastered walls - the arched doorways - and wrought iron window grilles create some of the key elements of this style. Inspired by the Panama California Exposition of 1915 as well as travels in Spain and Mexico - many architects found southern California the ideal setting for this type of architecture. The similarity to Spain*s climate and landscape was the primary catalyst for using the Spanish Colonial Revival style to transform houses - stores - offices and even cities throughout California - Arizona - New Mexico and Texas. These needlepoint kits match nicely with The Hunter - and are are lovely within any country decoration.
